Drawing Class 5

In Class:

We will be working from the model this day, with an emphasis on negative space and how it relates to proportion in the figure. I chose a dancer, to portray movements dictated by poetry, rhythm and movement – to influence the outcome of the drawing(s).

We will be exploring blind contour gesture again, this time leaving time to place the background shapes at 50% grey, then blocking in small aspects of DETAIL ( hair, fingers, mouth, etc.). All the while observing and comparing values. THis is a joining of LINE AND TONE to create a  depth in your work.

Drawing from the model is the best way to sharpen your composition and proportion skills. By including an aspect of background weight of line, you can determine how large something is. Proportion is only relative to what is your focus in the drawing IN COMPARISON to other objects in either the background or foreground plane.

Remember to think about the following:

Unique Marks
Bold line
Overall balance
Dark areas vs light area
Background

You will need your BOOKS ON MASTER ARTISTS, SCRAPBOOK, DRAWING PAPER, CHARCOAL, TAPE, WHITE CHALK  and NEWSPRINT.
